The Melon Jaune Canari 2 is a hybrid melon characterised by its bright yellow rind, sweet and fragrant aroma, as well as delicious, juicy flesh. A member of the Cucurbitaceae family it is native to the Canary Islands. Its unique flavour and texture have made it a popular variety for both home gardeners and commercial growers. Its mild sweetness and low acidity make it an ideal accompaniment to salads, fruit platters, and smoothies. This delicate, flavorful melon provides a great source of vitamins and minerals, making it a nutritious addition to any diet.

Cultivation:
- Prepare a planting bed in full sun, with well-draining soil that is slightly acidic (pH 6.0 - 6.5).
- Sow the melon seeds directly into the soil when the temperature is at least 18°C.
- Space the seeds 25 - 30 cm apart in rows that are 1.2 - 1.5 m apart.
- Immediately after sowing, mulch the soil with a layer of straw, grass clippings, or other organic mulch to conserve moisture and control weeds.
- Water the melon plants regularly, providing about 2.5 cm of water per week.
- As the melons start to form, provide support for the vines by tying them to stakes.
- Harvest the melons when they are ripe, usually 85 - 90 days after planting.
Recommendation:
Add aged compost and aged manure to the soil to increase fertility.
When the melon plants are young, use a liquid fertiliser to supplement the nutrients from the compost and manure.
